An American In Paris

An American In Paris

This week my wife and life partner and best friend Doreen is celebrating one of those birthdays (you know the ones…they tend to be evenly divisible by five or ten…or both…or a product of the two). I thought about how to mark the day, and I came to a very good decision: I would schlep her off to Paris for a romantic getaway. Thanks to my hero and mother Judy, who, without any hesitation, signed up to watch Max, Sam and Walter, we were able to make this happen.

So we jetted off to Paris a couple days ago, and we’re having a wonderful time. In just over 36 hours we’ve managed to cover about a dozen miles of the beautiful streets of this city. Here are some photographic highlights.

First of all, Doreen is the consummate travel partner, art historian, and human GPS.

Next, the sights of this city can take your breath away.

Finally, who knew you could use your wifi-enabled laptop in the very shadow of Notre Dame? Poor old Quasimodo must be rolling over in his grave.

PS: Don’t worry; I had nothing but my camera on this venture. My laptop is ensconsed in our hotel room. :)

We lived in the 18th Arondisement, just down the hill from Sacre Coure - another good sight to see. Also the Rodin Museum is a real hidden treasure. Get a CARTON of cheap french wine, a baguette, and go sit in the park on the Ille St. Louis - the one that faces the back of Notre Dame, and drink a toast to a fool who jumped into the Seine there back in ‘80. (I had a good reason, trust me.)

We don’t want you to think you got away from B-day greetings, so here goes….happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you, happy birthday dear Doreen, happy birthday to you! (Sung to the tune of “happy birthday to you”).

Hope you don’t get to soaked! That song about loving Paris in the Spring time was just a marketing tool of the French tourism office.

    Safe return trip!

I can smell the baguettes from here, the baked brie, the cafe latte, the foie, the roasting chestnuts on the champs, and the wine, oh, the wine; I can also smell the anti-Israel sentiment, the left-wing socialist tripe, the decaying values, the rotted medical system, the pro-arab sentiment, the unwillingness to face Islamic fundamentalism in the streets, blah, blah, blah.
    Enjoy.

Great to have you keep us in step with you. Mom hasn’t seen this yet. She had a meeting to go to. I’ll get back to you when she sees this.

Don’t miss the little museums like Jeu de Palme, or the Rue des Rosiers where what’s left of the juif community survives. And if you see Sarko say hi.
